Noon Sakinah & Tanween Rules These rules apply to sounds produced by noon sakinah (نْ) and tanween (ً ٍ ٌ):
- Idhaar (clarity): If noon sakinah or tanween is followed by any of these letters [ء ه ع ح غ خ], pronounce the noon clearly without ghunnah.
- Idghaam (merging):
• With Ghunnah if followed by [ي ن م و], merge the sound and apply ghunnah.
• Without Ghunnah if followed by [ل ر], merge without ghunnah. - Iqlaab (conversion): If followed by [ب], change the sound to a meem with ghunnah, then pronounce the baa.
- Ikhfaa (concealment): For the remaining letters [ت ث ج د ذ س ش ص ض ط ظ ف ق ك], conceal the noon sound and apply ghunnah, adjusting the mouth position according to the following letter.
Noon & Meem Mushaddad: If a noon (نّ) or meem (مّ) carries shaddah, it must be pronounced with a two-beat ghunnah, even when stopping.
Meem Sakinah Rules:
- Ikhfaa Shafawy: If followed by [ب], conceal the meem and apply ghunnah.
- Idghaam Shafawy: If followed by another meem, merge and apply ghunnah.
- Izhaar Shafawy: If followed by any other letter, pronounce the meem clearly without ghunnah.
Qalqalah (echoing): Applied to [ق ط ب ج د] to produce a light echoing sound, especially when stopping. The intensity of the echo depends on the letter’s position and emphasis.
